MUSIC MONDAY NO.9

there are two songs on this playlist that i am currently majorly obsessed with.

'we go oh' is such a great song. you guys need to watch the music video. the lyrics and the music video are pretty powerful. 'not giving' in is also a great song. there seems to be a real connection between this song and we go oh. i am really feelin' them and the message they are bringing across.

i've been listening to bbc radio 1 lately and by lately i mean every day. why is it that i have to listen to a uk radio station to find listen to great music? our radio stations are not even remotely as good as bbc radio 1. i love the morning radio show with nick grimshaw. for us california people it starts playing around 10 or 11pm since there is an 8 hour difference. you guys should all tune in and listen. i listen on my computer through itunes radio. i'm obsessed.

i hope you guys like this mix. to be honest, i really rushed it. but, whatever because i like all the music on it. most of it is old tunes (not oldies, just music we've all probably heard a ton) and i do not apologize for it.

MUSIC MONDAY NO. 7

on plane rides i either go super up-beat music and most of it is pop (judge me, world) or i listen to slower more relaxed music. when i took my mini trip to san francisco i decided to go with pop, up-beat music! here are a couple of the songs that i listened to on the plane and muni.

hope the up-beat music gets your week started on a good note because i sure hope it helps mine.
i am a little stressed and just want to stay in bed all day and pretend i don't have a crazy week ahead of me. if you need me i will be in the corner chugging caffeine all week.   -eli

MUSIC MONDAY NO.6 // EXCUSE MY FRENCH

if we are friends than you probably know that i love everything and anything french. except i hated my advanced french class so much i dropped it after the first week. mind you i had never taken a single day of french before hand...i think what i did was save myself from a big fat F. what i especially love is french music. there is something about not knowing exactly what is being sung, but feeling like whatever it is that they are saying is exactly what you needed to hear in that moment. i like to make up stories in my head as i listen to french music.

for this reason and because i am in the midsts of planning my trip to london and paris for next year* i decided to make a playlist of all french music.

*i am crazy excited and cannot believe my best friend and i get to spend my birthday there! i have been before, but never to london! ah! my heart is ready toe explode of happiness...that's a thing, right?

MUSIC MONDAY NO.5 // ATLAS GENIUS

this week i decided to feature a great band instead of making a playlist. for two reasons, i didn't have time to finish a full playlist because my week has been crazy busy & because atlas genius is fantastic and deserves everyone to know who they are.

i discovered them (this is going to sound stupid) while on my run. i was running to the naked and famous station and right at the end of my run their song trojans came on and i wanted time to stop so i could listen to the song forever and take it all in. it's been a while since a song has hit me hard. there is something very special about atlas genius, people. their lyrics are raw and they fill the empty cracks in all our hearts.

they are from adelaide, south australia...so many bands are from there and now i want to visit! trojans was their first single release and their ep through the looking glass is now available. in other words, go buy it and go check them out!

they are currently on tour with animal kingdom (which i just saw live and are amazing), silversun pickups, and wolf gang. some fantastic bands to tour with if you ask me! check out their tour dates and if you can go see to their show. hopefully i'll be at one of their la shows next week.

watch these two videos and then go check them out. i promise you won't regret it one tiny bit.

MUSIC MONDAY NO.4

there are certain songs that remind me of certain people and certain times of my life. these are some of them. they are mostly love songs or in my experience songs that remind me of dumb people. ha ha. i still love these songs nonetheless. they make me feel somewhat nostalgic, but not too much. 

we all have songs that remind us of the past and sometimes it's nice to make a playlist of those songs and listen to them. i might be a little crazy, but hey, they make me happy.

there is nothing i like more than a good solid playlist. summer playlists are so different than winter/fall/spring playlists. summer playlists are the foundation for good summer days (yes they actually really are) and if you don't have good music playing while on a road trip or just while driving in a car it really really stinks.

these are ten songs that make me think of summer. this playlist can be your soundtrack during drives down PCH or during late night drives with good friends.

MUSIC MONDAY // BIRDY

instead of a music monday playlist (which i was unable to post last week) i have decided to introduce you guys to a rising english musician. i've listened to her covers since the beginning and now she is getting the praise she deserves from a ton of people and i love it!

jasmine van den bogaerde is a sixteen year old british musician that goes by the stage name birdy. long story short...she's got a voice that can leave you in a wonderful and mystical trance. i know, you are probably thinking "wait, what?" and my answer to that is: her voice really is magical and there is something so perfect about it. i can't really explain it, but what i can do is show you two of her music videos: 1901 and skinny love.

she is well known for her cover of skinny love by bon iver and let me tell you, it is pure genius and her music video to the song 1901 by Phoenix is really fantastic and i have watched it roughly around 15 times today. oops?
