this tune makes me want to drive to the desert. it makes me want to explore the streets of barcelona. it makes me want to dance all over paris again. it makes me want to drink some whiskey and wear red lipstick. i'm into this song. enjoy.

MUSIC MONDAY NO. 26

sometimes in all the craziness around me the only thing that seems to really help and keep me sane is music. when i'm driving after a long and tough day the first thing i do is play some music. music is a universal language that really resonates with everybody. a certain song can flood your brain with past memories, it can make you cry, and it can save you from something. that's something incredible.

here is a playlist of random songs that make me feel good. perfect playlist to accompany saturday morning brunch making.

let me start off by saying how much i love this photograph from the series Isle of White. the long braids, white dresses, and the landscape...i am so totally inspired.

okay, now back to the real reason for this post. there is a new playlist for you to listen to! i'm pretty terrible at blogging and posting new mixes if you haven't already noticed. lately i have been listening to all sorts of music. i'll have to post a random mix soon, but this weeks is a little more laid back. i've even been listening to it when working out. random mix. good musicians/bands. nothing crazy. it has been just what i needed on my long drives. last week i put almost 600 miles on my car. in one week. how crazy is that?! so, i've needed music that's not going to drive me insane.

MUSIC MONDAY NO.24

something i really enjoy doing is going on youtube and watching videos of covered songs. i'm usually always amazed when i hear a completely different rendition of a song. i love artists that can make a song completely their own. i mean, who doesn't love that? here are three that i came across that i find to be pretty fantastic. kings of leon cover robyn's dancing on my own and they kill it. bastille cover miley cyrus' we can't stop and let me tell you...it's pretty damn funny. we finish off with gabrielle aplin blessing us with her beautiful cover of one direction's best song ever.

don't think i have forgotten completely about those playlists i used to post. i've been listening to some great music lately and have become a bit selfish when it comes to sharing playlists. whateva. it happens. as an apology i bring you a new playlist. these songs resonate something in me. as of right now i have been listening to these songs daily. they make me feel a tiny bit sane in this mad world.

SAY YES & MUSIC MONDAY NO.22

Posted: 6.17.2013 | | Labels: ,

i'm back, people! i'll probably go mia again, but hey at least i try?

i just wanted to take the time to talk about something i've come to truly realize and live out.
taking big risks isn't easy. it's scary, you don't know what the hell is going to happen. it could end terribly or wonderfully, but you will never know until that risks is taken...until you say yes to what you want.

moving to los angeles was a massive risk i questioned for a while. would it be worth it? would this city eat me up? would i not feel at home? would i even find a job? the list went on and on.  a week or two ago i was telling my roommate how i was feeling out of place and was still slightly questioning the move. i told her i was aware it would take some time to settle down and feel fully at home, but i was scared i wouldn't be good enough. but is anyone ever really good enough?

let me tell you though, if i had never said yes to moving and had i never sent out resumes to people i admire artistically or decided to go after what i wanted then i sure as hell wouldn't be where i am right now. i've never been so excited and inspired in my life. i've got a job with a great photographer and even greater person. i've gotten to meet so many great people who have been nothing but kind to me. my job makes truly fulfills me and i still cannot believe i am doing what i am doing. i get to travel, come up with ideas, do things i've always wanted to do and i get paid...is that even considered a job? my boss keeps me inspired and she pushes me to be better. we have huge goals and i honestly can tell you i think we will achieve greatness.

say yes to your dreams. take risks. let yourself fall in love. put yourself first. forget the past or at least try let go of it. forgive people. let go of whatever your holding on to that is hurting you. let go of grudges. be free. be happy. cry if you need to. most importantly; love yourself. you are worth it all. i promise. the risks and dreams you are too afraid to say out loud are worth it. go for it. you have one life, just one.

happy monday! and here's a playlist for you to listen to this week! it's just a random collection of songs i've been currently listening to. i'm continually adding to it so it'll probably get really long!

BELL X1

Posted: 5.07.2013 | | Labels:

i know i've been pretty absent over here, but with the move coming up in two weeks and getting close to finals i seem to have no time (honesty time: not much interest) in posting on this blog. i feel bad because i've come across some awesome things i have been meaning to share with you all, but i just haven't.

as you probably noticed i didn't post a new music monday playlist, but i am bringing you today a band that you all need to know about. i find Bell X1 to be a band that really pulls at your heart strings. they are a band from Dublin, Ireland and they've been together since 2000. most of the band were originally members of Juniper. i am so glad they got together to create the incredible band that is bell X1.

their live performances are powerful and have a sense of nostalgia. their whole sound is kind of like this in a way. the lyrics are witty and interesting. i have been playing them nonstop and as much as i kind of want to keep this band all to myself i feel like i am letting some of you down if i don't share their greatness.

one of my favorite songs by them is this song above, velcro. let me tell you though...you have to listen to both the recorded and live version. so incredible. enjoy, guys.

MUSIC MONDAY NO. 21 // LADY LOVE

Posted: 4.22.2013 | | Labels:

this week we have a guest blogger taking over music monday. if you ever want any recommendations for things to do in san francisco tweet her. i promise you won't be disappointed. not only is em a total foodie, but she knows how to dress well and homegirl is hilarious. instead of doing a normal bio introduction i decided to ask her to send me over three random facts about her and this is what i got back. enjoy.

1. I hate people who talk during movies
2. French toast is not a breakfast food, it’s a dessert
3. I have a picture of Ryan Sheckler on my retainer

So this playlist is a shout out to all my ladies. I have come to the recent epiphany that I am a woman's woman. I’d like to pretend that I’m a guy’s girl but I hate sports and I naturally deflect men, perhaps because of my intimidating good looks? So I made this playlist to celebrate all the joys of being a woman: shopping, gossiping, and not having to pay for the meal on the first date.

But the ladies on this playlist are so much more than that, there are badasses in their music and just for being in a band. Kudos.

Enjoy,
Em

COVER ME, BABY

Posted: 4.19.2013 | | Labels:

i didn't post a playlist this week, but i still wanted to share some music with you so here is a cover of Alt-J's song Tessellate.

who doesn't love a good cover? this cover is by emma luoise and it left me a bit speechless. also can we talk about how great her outfit is? obsessed.

my plan was to totally post music mondays while i was away in london, but that didn't happen. sorry? i was just really busy and it was hard for me to blog while away.

here is a playlist of some songs i was listening to while in london. i think it's fun and a good mix of songs. enjoy!

oh if you haven't already you should check out our instagram vacation hashtag.

MUSIC MONDAY NO.18

it's monday and strangely i am actually really excited about this. i hope you guys had a great weekend! mine was full of wonderful people, great people, and homemade sunday brunch.

guys, sunday brunch is probably one of my most favorite things in the whole entire world. ask anyone who knows me well and they will all tell you how sunday is my favorite day of the week and it mostly has to do with the fact that brunch on sundays is the greatest.

back to music monday! i have no clue if anyone has been doing the 2 miles a day challenge, but i am and i am loving it. on saturdays i have been running an extra mile because it makes me feel great!

here is a new workout playlist for those of you who like to do weeeeerk. yes, i said werk. it makes it better. it's whatever.

PS i will still post new music monday playlists while i am away so keep checking back!

MUSIC MONDAY NO. 17

happy monday! guys, can you believe it is already march?! wasn't it just january! like, what in the world! next week i'll be boarding a plane for london. it's weird because it feels like yesterday i was booking my flight. ah!

the first day of spring is march 20th which is three days before my 20th birthday (which i'll be celebrating in london) and that is both exciting and scary. exciting because it means it'll be time for cute spring clothes (i can't believe i am excited about this) and scary because it means i have to start really kicking my ass during my workouts. anyone else with me?

this week for music monday i am bringing you a workout playlist. with spring just under three weeks away we should all be working to get our bodies ready for bathing suits and shorts. if you are like me you are really picky about workout music. if the right songs aren't playing then my workouts aren't as great.

i want to propose something. some of you might read this, laugh, and think "who does she think she is. hell no." that's okay, this isn't for everyone. for those of you who want to do this with me...from now until April 4th (one whole month) i propose we run 2 miles a day. it's great because it isn't a lot, but it's still something and we will feel great afterwards. if you want to run more then awesome. i am all about that! if you want to join me and i would love for you to tell me!

a few notes:
1. it's all about finding a gap in your schedule to put on some running shoes and get some cardio done. (i always feel so good after i workout and i know you probably do too.)
2. if you want to run a mile and walk the other mile then that's awesome too! just get movin'.
3. we can share workout playlists! i'll be focusing my music monday playlists this month on just workout music.*

i started this last week and feel great knowing i am getting some cardio in before my workouts.

*if you want to listen to this playlist when working out i suggest downloading the spotify premium 30 day free trial so that you can instantly listen to this playlist on your phone (or whatever you use) even without any internet. it's amazing and you can cancel before it ends so you don't have to pay after your trial expires. but in all honesty spotify premium is amazing.

and yes, i do listen to one direction when i workout. no shame. no shame at all.

PS you can now pin photos from Gold & Wired!

TOM ODELL

Posted: 2.28.2013 | | Labels:

i'm going to start off by telling you to watch the first video before continuing to read this blog post. you will understand why i am so in love with tom odell....

did you watch it? okay, cool. for starters, he is a baby kurt cobain and i love it. kurt was a major babe, tom is a major babe. thank you, Lord. if we are serious though, his voice is incredible. tom's emotional and sometimes heart breaking stories are sung alongside a piano baseline. you can feel the raw emotion in his playing and singing which is what draws people to him and his music. he is a rare gem and that is what probably won him the BRITs Critic Choice Award this year. he deserves all the success in the world.

tom odell is from chichester, england (the UK is taking over the world and i am okay with it) and he is currently signed to columbia records. good for them. now go check out more of tom's music.

for all you fashion lovers out there who watched the Burberry Prorsum Autumn/Winter 2013 show then you might recognize tom. he performed during the show, but his music was also featured during the Burberry Prorsum Spring 2012 catwalk. by the way people, the Burberry show was remarkable as always. also i feel the need to take a moment and say that christopher bailey is a genius and his impecable music taste has kickstarted a lot of musicians careers which i love.

PS you need to go listen to his song Another Love. it's heart breaking and beautiful.

it's monday! new playlist for you to enjoy! i made this one extra long because i didn't post one last week..actually i didn't blog all week. i came down with the flu. let me just say that i had no clue the flu was a real thing. i thought it was something people just like to pretend and exaggerate about. like the way people exaggerate about how McDonalds fries are really tasty...they're not. stop lying to yourself. but really, the flu is real! i've now officially had the flu.

so, this week i am bringing you some fun new beaaattz. yes, i am aware of how lame that last sentence was and i feel no shame. haters gonna hate. back to the playlist though, it's fun to listen to when doing work, working out, or if you want to have a dance party by yourself which is normal because i do it all the time.

happy monday, people!

FOLLOW FRIDAY

Posted: 2.15.2013 | | Labels: , ,

it's friday and you cannot imagine how excited i am because i finally have a short break. well, not really since i will be working everyday this weekend. but it's a nice break from school. don't get my wrong, i love school because i get to learn from awesome things (i'm currently in school for media arts) but being behind a computer for 7 hours everyday working on new projects is currently killing my eyes and wrist. my brain has been on overdrive since monday and it'll be nice to have a few hours today all for myself. normally i would be in class, but thank heavens for holidays.

this week i'm bring new things for you to check out. i hope you guys like them.

blog one of my most favorite blogs is Designlovefest. the brains behind it is bri emery whom i have a total girl crush on. since she is a graphic design major you better believe her blog is full of beautiful layouts and type. you can find anything from a great cocktail recipe to a style post. go check out her blog, i promise you will be hooked.

movie For Lovers Only is a movie in black and white that is visually stimulating. there are so many locations in this film that i wish i could visit. the story is a bit sad in my opinion. it is about two people in love who haven't seen each other in years, but come in contact when both are in Paris for work. they travel together and that is all i will say because i think you should watch it. michael polish did a beautiful job in my opinion.

read i decided to change the book section to just plain reading material because there are so many magazines i feel people need to go read. yes, i did just write a whole post about some of my favorites. it's whatever. a magazine i think is truly a work of art is i-D magazine. it is filled with rich and beautiful photographs. the content always leaves me feeling inspired. what more do you need from a magazine?

band  Fitz and the Tantrums is such a fun band. they are an LA band that were founded by lead vocalist michael fitzpatrick who has said that their musical style can be described as "soul-influenced indie pop." they are an interesting band and one i definitely want people to go check out. their newest single Out Of My League has been playing on the radio lately and i love when it comes. i'm that girl who has dance parties in her car by herself. how am i still single?

MUSIC MONDAY NO.15

new week, new playlist. this past week was chilly as well as a bit wet and i found myself listening to certain songs over and over which is why i decided to put them together as a playlist to share with you.

you know when someone asks you what your favorite song is and most of the time you say you don't have one? well, i always thought i didn't have a favorite song, but i started really thinking about it and i realized there are a few songs i have loved for years. my top three are Tiny Dancer by Elton John, Your Song by Elton John (what a brilliant man), and The Wind by Cat Stevens. i fall more in love with each song with every listen. these 11 songs really are my most favorite.

are you subscribing to my spotify playlists? if not, you should.

happy monday!

FOLLOW FRIDAY

Posted: 2.08.2013 | | Labels: ,

this follow friday was meant for last week, but i had such a crazy and not so great week that i had no time to post anything after tuesday. oops. i hope you guys enjoyed the last follow friday from two weeks ago. did anyone check any of the recommendations out? let me know if you did. well, for this week i am bringing four more of my favorites.

blog i recently came across Shine By Three and i instantly fell in love with the beautiful photographs and the outfit posts as well as Margaret Zhang's way of writing.

movie you can never go wrong with woody allen. am i right or am i right? if you have never watched Manhattan then i definitely think this is a film you should watch. the film is in black and white which is already a huge reason to watch it. but what i loved was that there's something so organic about this movie. i never wanted it to end.

book Everything Beautiful Began After is one of my top favorite books of all time. it is beautifully written and i fell in absolute love with each character and i caught myself rooting for each character. it is kind of a love story. it's really more than that though. i don't want to give anything away. beware: you won't want to put this book down.

band Generationals are a band to watch for. i put one of their songs in this week's music monday playlist. they're a kick ass duo which catchy tunes that make me want to dance for hours.

PS

i know i have sucked at posting lately, but you most know that my schedule is so busy and the free time i have i spend working, working out, or trying to have a social life. damn college life.

MUSIC MONDAY NO. 14

Posted: 2.04.2013 | | Labels:

today is monday which means it's time for a new playlist. i feel like today's mix is almost an extension of last week's playlist. it's got kind of the same vibe going, but with some romance. i've been listening to these songs a lot and i really love them. check out the individual bands because they've got music your ears must hear.

happy monday (but not really because we all hate mondays...even just a little bit)!

MUSIC MONDAY NO. 13

Posted: 1.28.2013 | | Labels:

it's monday which means it is time for another Music Monday! i had a friend text me last night saying they were excited for my new playlist and that made me really happy. i love to hear your feedbacks, ideas, or simple hellos. i like knowing i have readers that enjoy what i am posting. so, homegirl (you know who you are) here is a shout out and thank you for continuing to scroll through my blog.

i am super excited about today's playlist. mostly because these songs all have a sense of youth and endless possibilities and i feel like lately i have been really needing that. i think you guys should check out all the bands on this playlist because they all have some cool songs that are worth listening to.

i hope this playlist inspires you a little bit, motivates you in some way, or just makes you feel good.
